Blue Gene Access
INCF provides access to a Blue Gene supercomputer for the neuroinformatics community.
INCF owns a share of a BlueGene/L (BG/L) supercomputer which is placed in the Parallel Computer Center (PDC) at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. This share is now made available for usage through the INCF Secretariat.
Evaluation Phase
During a first evaluation phase a limited number of large-scale computing projects will be selected, based on the suitability of the project for supercomputers. Approved projects will then continuously be reevaluated on a regular basis. A first deadline for receiving access to the BG/L in Stockholm is October 1st, 2008. After that, new projects will be approved based on availability and usage load of the BG/L.
The Blue Gene supercomputer
- A technical description of the BG/L supercomputer can be found at, e.g., http://www.research.ibm.com/journal/rd49-23.html and http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247179.html?Open
- A user forum for the usage of supercomputers like the BG/L can be found on the INCF Portal (forthcoming). Here supercomputer users can discuss and get some help from each other. Those running speciffically on the Blue Gene/L at PDC, KTH, can also get support regarding questions related to the BG/L operative system from PDC's support desk .
- IBM is interested in supporting the most successful applications, and for those they might provide computing resources on even larger supercomputers.
